YEREVAN. – The actions by Shant Harutyunyan will hardly receive the support of the Armenian body politic.

Political scientist Aleksandr Markarov stated the abovementioned at a press conference on Tuesday.

Markarov noted that there were manifestations of radicalism in Europe and in the US, too, but the state has suppressed them.

“This symbolic radicalism finds little support among the Armenian society. But it shows that a part of the [political] opposition is ready to [take] radical actions,” Aleksandr Markarov argued.

To note, Shant Harutyunyan who heads a nationalist party, and who had announced about starting a revolution, on November 5—and with close to several dozen supporters wearing Guy Fawkes “Anonymous masks”—started a march toward the Presidential Palace, but the police stopped the march. As a result, there was a scuffle, and the police detained 38 activists. Subsequently, 20 of them, including Harutyunyan, were arrested. As a result of the melee, about a dozen people, including police officers, were hospitalized.
