YEREVAN. – If something changes in settlement of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, it could happen in the coming year, political analyst believes.
Later everything will become more problematic, Gagik Harutyunayan said commenting on the upcoming meeting between the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan.
“Obviously, our Azerbaijani neighbors have become more restrained. This can be seen in the position of Turkey as well, when certain hints are made in connection with the opening of the Armenian- Turkish border,” chairman of Noravank center told reporters.
The analyst believes that there are all preconditions for changes in the Karabakh issue, especially after Ilham Aliyev and Serzh Sargsyan are reelected. Despite this, according to the analyst, the negotiations are still underway, and it is very difficult to predict the outcome, because they can pass without significant results.
“But, of course, every negotiation is better than any war,” he emphasized.
Referring to the statement of the Commander of the 102nd military base in Gyumri, Gagik Harutyunyan said: “t is clear that Armenia-Russia relations raised to a new level, and this can not but alarm the Turkish-Azerbaijani politicians.”
Last month Russian commander said in case Azerbaijani leadership decides to restore jurisdiction over Nagorno-Karabakh by force, the Russian #102 base in Armenia may enter confrontation in accordance with treaty obligations of Russia within CSTO.
