YEREVAN. – The ruling Republican Party of Armenia National Assembly (RPA NA) Faction will not take part in the NA voting on the bill on recognizing the independence of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR).

RPA MP Sukias Avetisyan stated the aforementioned at a press conference on Wednesday.

As per Avetisyan, the non-pro-government Prosperous Armenia Party and the coalition government’s junior member Orinats Yerkir (Rule of Law) Party NA Factions likewise do not plan on participating in this voting.

The MP substantiated this decision by arguing that voting “against” this bill will be perceived in a wrong way, whereas voting “for” it will contribute to the risky ideas of this proposed law.

“This is risky adventure, especially since the very NKR considers such a bill to be untimely,” the MP noted.

He also proposed the architects of this bill to show their patriotism by not introducing such a draft law.

In this connection, Sukias Avetisyan recalled that the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic is de facto independent, whereas its de jure recognition is a serious matter in international politics.
