YEREVAN. – Abolition of VAT at the border will mean that Armenian producers will occur in a disadvantageous situation in comparison with importers, head of parliament’s committee on financial issue said.
“VAT can be abolished only for the equipment and the goods that are not produced in Armenia in the interest of the local industry,” Gagik Minasyan said in response to the question of Prosperous Armenia MP Mikael Melkumyan.
In an interview with Armenian News-NEWS.am, Melkumyan said collection of VAT at the border in 1997 when tax service was being established, could to some extent be justified.
“Now collection of VAT can be at least delayed for 90 days. Another option is to collect 15% instead of 20% from those who agree to pay at the border,” MP said.
