YEREVAN. – According to Article 66 of the Constitution, the deputies are not limited to the duty to attend meetings of parliament, as they are acting in accordance with their conscience and convictions, ruling party MP said.

Spokesperson for the ruling Republican Party of Armenia Eduard Sharmazanov was asked by reporters about today’s boycotting of the special session.

“According to Article 99 of the National Assembly of Armenia regulations, the political factions have right to make political statements. Political boycott is not a form of political struggle,” Sharmazanov explained.

Asked whether the decision of the Constitutional Court requires mandatory participation in the meetings of deputies, Sharmazanov again referred to Article 66 of the Constitution.

Earlier the demonstrators, who joined the “Against Mandatory Pension Payments” initiative, on Friday commenced a march to discuss the postponement of the introduction of this procedure .

The demonstrators started the march upon the respective call made by opposition MPs, and finding out that the ruling Republican Party of Armenia National Assembly (RPA NA) Faction has boycotted the NA special session devoted to this matter.
