YEREVAN. – Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian on Wednesday received Takao Makino, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan.

Nalbandian stressed that Armenia will continue the efforts to expand cooperation with Japan, informs the Armenian MFA press service. He noted that President Serzh Sargsyan’s official visit to Japan last year gave new impetus to Armenian-Japanese relations. 

In turn, Makino expressed the hope that the collaboration between Armenia and Japan will develop further. Also, he gratefully recalled President Sargsyan’s visit to the Japanese earthquake disaster zone.     

The Armenian FM stressed that the bilateral collaboration has broadened after the opening of Armenia’s embassy in Tokyo, and the consultations between the MFAs of the two countries have become regular. In addition, Nalbandian underscored the Japanese MFA’s initiative to open an embassy in Armenia’s capital city Yerevan.     

Subsequently, the interlocutors discussed cooperation between Armenia and Japan within international organizations and at parliamentary level.

At the request of the Japanese guest, Edward Nalbandian presented the ongoing efforts by Armenia and the international community toward a pacific settlement to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. In this context, the Japan deputy FM expressed his country’s support to the efforts to peacefully settle this matter.
