YEREVAN. – The meeting of Armenian and Azerbaijani presidents is a start of a new round of talks over Karabakh, director of Armenia-based Institute of Orientology Ruben Safrastyan said.

Meanwhile, Azerbaijan is carrying out out its special policy: the talks are underway but Baku is using military rhetoric to create tension on the border.

“This is how Azerbaijan is trying to influence the negotiation process,” Safrastyan told reporters on Thursday.

The expert is hopeful that the Co-Chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group will demand that Azerbaijan must review the policy.

As to Turkey’s role, Safrastyan is confident that Ankara’s goal is to become the fourth mediator in the peace process.

“However, Turkey will prove it has unbiased position once it stops defending Azerbaijan,” he added.

Armenian and Azerbaijani presidents Serzh Sargsyan and Ilham Aliyev met in Vienna on November 19.
