Armenia’s first Human Rights Defender and former opposition MP, public activist Larisa Alaverdyan is for Armenia to have its own political platform.

Alaverdyan herself noted the aforesaid at a press conference on Thursday, as she spoke about Armenia’s accession to the Customs Union and the EU-Armenia association.

“If we do not design our own political line, relations and conditions, we [i.e., Armenia] will lose in any rapprochement.

“Not solely what you are doing, but also when, how and who is doing it is very important in politics. Unfortunately, we are dealing with a time when both are missing,” Alaverdyan stated.

As for Russian President Vladimir Putin’s scheduled visit to Armenia on December 2, Armenia’s first ombudswoman said this date is associated with Armenia’s Sovietization which, as per Alaverdyan, is one of the most difficult days, and it is a stigma that leads to worse.

Consequently, the former MP believes that another date should have been selected for Putin’s talks in Armenia’s capital city Yerevan.

“Vladimir Putin should have come to Armenia much earlier,” Larisa Alaverdyan concluded.
