YEREVAN.  – As of Wednesday, a total of 642 convicts have been released from the correctional facilities of the Armenian Ministry of Justice.

Justice Minister’s adviser Nikolay Arustamyan stated the aforesaid at a press conference on Friday. 

In addition, as per Arustamyan, 920 people were excused from conducting mandatory community service and paying fines, and the prison sentences of 77 convicts were reduced. 

To note, the released prisoners were set free under the amnesty that was proposed by President Serzh Sargsyan and subsequently approved by the National Assembly. The amnesty was declared on October 3, and on the occasion of the 22nd anniversary of Armenia’s independence, and it will be in effect until December 25.
