YEREVAN. – The Russian military base in Armenia is stationed at different points which are called “military townships”.   

Due to a change in the objectives of the military base, and towards ensuring the security of Armenia, the stationing points of the military base likewise have changed several times. 

Armenian Defense Minister’s Press Secretary Artsrun Hovhannisyan’s clarification states the aforesaid.

“Specifically, [and] to modernize and complement new weaponry to the Russian air base stationed at [Armenian capital city Yerevan’s] Erebuni Airport, it is planned to provisionally allocate to the Russian side several areas—intended for a helicopter squadron, maintenance and fuel [storage] buildings—that are not used by the Armenian Armed Forces.

“At its [Thursday,] November 21 session, the Government of Armenia approved the signing of the draft agreement designed just for this purpose,” Artsrun Hovhannisyan especially wrote in his statement of clarification.
