YEREVAN. – The closing of roads is nothing new for Armenia and capital city Yerevan, and Russian President Vladimir Putin’s forthcoming visit to Armenia will not change much in the country.  

Eduard Hovhannisyan, Chairman of the “Achilles” Center for the Defense of Drivers’ Rights NGO, stated the aforesaid on Saturday.

“Streets are closed one here, one there. [And] after such a thing Putin’s one- or two-day visit is considered ordinary.  

“The roads [in Armenia] are closed for strictly limited [number of] persons and, of course, for foreign guests that are invited by the state,” Hovhannisyan noted. 

To the remark that this time Yerevan-Gyumri Highway likewise will be closed due to the Russian leader’s visit, Hovhannisyan responded that this, too, will not happen for the first time in Armenia.

“It closes when our president’s motorcade passes by the same, or any other road,” he added.

Nonetheless, as per Eduard Hovhannisyan, the accompanying security staff sometimes misuses its duties.
