YEREVAN. – During Tuesday’s National Assembly (NA) deliberations with respect to the ratification of the treaty on Armenia’s forthcoming accession to the Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), the opposition ARF Dashnaktsutyun NA Faction publicized the international treaty, which was ratified back in 1994, on creating an economic union with Russia, and which is still in force, Zhamank daily reported.

“With this 20-year-old agreement, it was envisioned to conduct a joint monetary, budgetary, tax, foreign economic, customs, and currency policy.

“Deputy Minister of Finance Suren Karayan confirmed, from the NA rostrum, not solely the existence of this agreement and the reality of it [still] being in force, but, also, that it is a more rigid document and which undermines Armenia’s sovereignty.

“So, the foundations of the process currently taking place were laid in 1994,” Zhamanak wrote.
