YEREVAN. – Employees of the Nairit chemical rubber plant of Armenia’s capital city Yerevan have gathered Friday outside the plant, and they are demanding a meeting with the Nairit director.
The head of the Nairit Trade Union Committee, Hrach Tadevosyan, told the abovementioned to Armenian News-NEWS.am.
“We’re waiting for the director so he can answer our questions. Let’s see what will be our fate,” Tadevosyan added.
In his words, they still do not know what steps they will take, but they will determine their future courses of action solely after meeting with the plant director.
On Thursday, several hundred Nairit employees had assembled outside the Office of the President. They had come to submit a letter, and to demand a full payment of their due salaries and an end to being sent dismissal notices.
The Nairit workers do not believe that the authorities will make good on their promise and pay the employees’ overdue salaries, which total Armenian drams equivalent to approximately $15 million.
These unpaid wages are paid off on the account of the profits of the two state-owned energy companies: The Yerevan Thermal Power Plant, and the Vorotan Hydro Power Plant.
