YEREVAN. – By voting in favor of the treaty on Armenia’s accession to the Eurasian Economic Union, the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) has been guided by political pragmatism.

Non-pro-government PAP National Assembly (NA) Faction member Stepan Margaryan said the abovementioned at Friday’s—and the year’s final—NA briefing.

“A few years ago, we thought that this pragmatism was in the neutrality of Armenia. Today, however, neutrality is becoming perilous, and [therefore] it was decided to become a member in the Eurasian Economic Union.

“Some part of the powers need to be conceded in any integration process. Had we [, Armenia,] not integrated, isolation also would have been added to the regional blockade [of Armenia]; we have no right to be isolated,” Margaryan also stressed.

The National Assembly on Thursday ratified the treaty on Armenia’s accession to the Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union. The document was ratified by a vote of 103 for, 7 against, and one abstention.
