YEREVAN. – Under the conditions of the anti-Armenian policy by Turkey and Azerbaijan, the Armenian Genocide’s international recognition contains a security element for Armenia.

The Head of the Neighbouring Countries Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Armenia, Arsen Avagyan, stated the aforesaid at a press conference on Saturday.

He stressed that the Armenian authorities have repeatedly noted that all Armenians are claimants when it comes to the Armenian Genocide issue.

“The Armenian Genocide is an undeniable fact not solely for us [, Armenians,] but for the international community,” Avagyan added.

As per the MFA official, today we deal with a Turkey which conducts a policy of “smart denial” of the genocide.

“Turkey says, ‘Let’s discuss the problem together.’ Many [people] may get the impression that Turkey is ready to face history. The Turkish side’s main objective, however, is to remove the matter from the international agenda,” he said.

Arsen Avagyan added that the issue of the Armenian Genocide recognition will not cease to exist after 2015, the centenary of this.
