YEREVAN. – Not solely the Turks orchestrated the genocide of the Armenians; Germany likewise is at fault for the committing of this crime. And the other countries were late in finding an equitable solution of this problem.
Yerevan Centre for Excellence in Negotiation Senior Advisor, American University of Armenia lecturer Tovmas Samuelyan stated the aforementioned at Saturday’s press conference devoted to the recognition of and reparations for the Armenian Genocide.
In his view, all countries are accountable for the perpetration of the genocide, since the world order depends on the activities, or the inaction, by the superpowers.
“The superpowers should have intervened at the time. Now, we’re dealing with a 100-year-old unresolved matter. How can we [, Armenians,] force [for genocide recognition and reparations]? In no way. We have no leverage,” Samuelyan said.
But, as per the analyst, the main approaches should be based on public pressure and raising the level of awareness.
“It is indispensible to continually raise the Armenian Genocide issue in legal platforms. But, as a rule, the judicial doors are closed before this matter. Had they been open, the matter would already have been resolved. [Polish lawyer of Jewish descent] Raphael Lemkin [, who coined the word ‘genocide’ in 1944,] likewise had noted this,” Tovmas Samuelyan stressed.
