YEREVAN. – No one can predict the degree of corruption risks for a country in the case of accession to an organization.

The Deputy Minister of Justice of Armenia, Suren Krmoyan, noted the abovementioned at a press conference on Tuesday. He stated this in response to a query on whether the level of corruption of Armenia’s officials will rise once the country joins the Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), which also includes Belarus and Kazakhstan. The question referred to the view that the other EEU member states are very corrupt.

In Krmoyan’s words, the degree of corruption risks is discussed, but it is impossible to predict them when joining an organization.

The deputy minister also noted that a risk assessment will be conducted next year and, based on the results, respective actions will be taken.

Suren Krmoyan had earlier informed that a new anti-corruption strategy will soon be adopted in Armenia. According to him, the respective document will be quite flexible; that is, it will be possible to quickly respond to the situation.
