YEREVAN. – France is faithful to its commitment to pacifically resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The new French Ambassador to Armenia, Jean-François Charpentier, stated the above-said at Wednesday’s meeting with speaker Galust Sahakyan of the National Assembly (NA).
First, the Armenian parliament leader congratulated the French diplomat for being appointed Ambassador to Armenia, and wished him success in his respective mission, the NA press service informed. Sahakyan also expressed the hope that the new ambassador will contribute to the development of Armenia-France friendship relations. He assured that the Armenian authorities will assist in the French diplomat’s initiatives toward collaboration.
In addition, the NA chairman highly praised France’s considerable role in the international arena, especially, its engagement, as an OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairing country, in finding a settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
Galust Sahakyan added that there is also close interparliamentary cooperation between the two countries.
In turn, Charpentier noted that Armenian-French relations have a long history and are at a high level. The ambassador also stated that the political discourse between the two friendship countries greatly contribute to having closer relations and more developed cooperation.
The French diplomat stated that even though bilateral cooperation has been established in numerous domains, he will work towards the further development of trade and economic relations.
Speaking on the Karabakh conflict, the ambassador noted that the recent incidents that occurred on the Line of Contact cannot contribute to the settlement of the conflict through peace talks.
Jean-François Charpentier also assured Galust Sahakyan that he stands ready to take up the work entrusted to him, and which aims to establish closer relations and cooperation between Armenia and France.
