President of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev expressed a conviction, at the threshold of signing the treaties on joining the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) and the Customs Union (CU), that not solely shared history, but shared future joins his country with the unions’ member states.
“The Eurasian Economic Union countries are not only our economic partners, but, first and foremost, our close neighbors,” Atambayev stressed speaking to Rossiyskaya Gazeta daily of Russia.
The Kyrgyz president also noted that it will be difficult for his country to be without a common economic space, since it is impossible to make earnings by re-exporting alone.
“Joining this union opens up new opportunities for economic development,” Almazbek Atambayev specifically stated.
On Tuesday, Kyrgyzstan is slated to sign a treaty on EEU accession. It is also expected to sign a treaty on joining the CC.
Separately, after January 1, 2015, Armenia is expected to join the Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union, which also includes Kazakhstan and Belarus.
