New Zealand citizen Samuel Forrest and Ruzan Badalyan – the parents of little Leo diagnosed with Down syndrome – have reconciled with each other and moved to New Zealand.

The wife of a New Zealand father who abandoned him and their newborn baby in Armenia after discovering the baby had Down syndrome says she is ashamed of her decision.

In an exclusive interview with 3 News, Sam Forrest said he has forgiven his wife and the couple is moving forward after relocating together to New Zealand.

According to his wife, she is ashamed of her decision. But Ruzan asks not to judge her. "Don't judge because you will never know what you will do. I would never have expected I could have done that."

Remaining alone, the baby’s father set up a page on fundraising site Go Fund Me, due to which he managed to raise $60,000. The money slowly trickled in until the Americans picked up the story.

Leo was born in Yerevan on January 21, he was diagnosed with Down syndrome. His father made headlines by launching 'Bring Leo Home' campaign on GoFundMe. More than $500,000 has been raised so far.

Samuel first accused his wife of abandoning their son, while Ruzan Badalyan took to Facebook to tell the world about her difficult decision that she made for the sake of her son. She said Leo would have everything in New Zealand.

According to Ruzan, the reason for reconciliation was not money: she was just desperate to see her baby again.

"I know they will think that but the money is for Leo, not me. I'm not going to spend it on me,” Ruzan said.  

The couple has already put the money in trust,
and, according to them, they no longer have individual access to that money.
