YEREVAN. - According to the Armenia’s new Constitution, the post of the Commander-in-Chief is not stipulated in a non-war situation, Gagik Ghazinyan, member of the Commission on Constitutional Reforms, dean of the Yerevan State University (YSU) Law Department, told Armenian News – NEWS.am.

According to him, in case of war or military situation, the government will assign the obligation to the prime minister, who will appoint a professional military serviceman to control the military actions. 

Responding to the question on whether the new constitution resolves the issue of maintaining the current president’s power, Ghazinyan said they have repeatedly noted that the political force in power  doesn’t need to exert much force to try to hand over the power to the authorities in case of any government. There’s no need to carry out reforms for that. “Constitutional reforms pursue a more global objective,” Ghazinyan said.
