YEREVAN. – Historic research must help reach consensus on the casualties in the Ottoman Empire in the years of the World War I, Mr Ioannis Grigoriadis, assistant professor at Bilkent University (Ankara) told Armenian News – NEWS.am.

Answering the question on whether the peoples who suffered the atrocities of the Ottomans (Greeks, Armenians, Assyrians, Yezidis) should conduct a joint research and produce a joint case against the present-day Turkey, he answered: “You are raising a very sensitive and controversial issue which is more dealt as a political and less as a historical question. No side remained immune from the violence and terrors of war, although some sides paid a disproportionate toll.

What is more important in my view instead of Diaspora mobilization is to invite independent and systematic historical research in all countries involved, so that a consensus on what happened in these terrible years is eventually reached.”
