Local self-government elections will be conducted Sunday in 207 communities in the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR; Artsakh), Armenian News-NEWS.am has learned from the NKR Central Electoral Commission that 240 community leader candidates will run in 144 communities. A total of 52.5 percent of these candidates are the serving community leaders, and 96.3 percent of the candidates are male.
In addition, 1,241 candidates will vie for the 1,022 council member seats in 200 communities.
Furthermore, a mayoral election will be held in capital city Stepanakert. Incumbent Mayor Suren Grigoryan, and Artsakh Communist newspaper editor Aris Grigoryan will run for this office.
A total of 94,241 voters are eligible to take part in this local ballot in the NKR.
