Incumbent Mayor Vardan Ghalumyan has won Sunday’s mayoral election in Ijevan city in the Tavush Province of Armenia.
Ghalumyan had quit the opposition Prosperous Armenia Party several months before the election to receive the support of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), and become an RPA member.
He received 6,240 votes, whereas his opponent Varuzhan Nersisyan, head of the Ijevan branch of the State Committee of Real Estate Cadastre, garnered 2,032 votes.
Even though both candidates are members of the RPA, the latter had supported Vardan Ghalumyan in the mayoral race in Ijevan.
