I cannot say for sure whether sanctions will be imposed against Azerbaijan, but it is clear that the frequent ceasefire violations and everything that is happening in Nagorno-Karabakh is unacceptable.
French MP and co-chair of the Armenia-France Parliamentary Group, François Rochebloine, told the aforesaid to Armenian News-NEWS.am. He noted this reflecting on the Azerbaijan Milli Majlis’ (National Assembly) reaction to the recent European Parliament (EP) resolution regarding human rights in that country.
To the remark that, in case of sanctions, Azerbaijan has announced about the possibility of prohibiting EP members’ entry into its territory, Rochebloine specifically said: “This could be the worst advertisement, to say the least, for the country, and thus, they will show their true colors.”
Commenting on whether the European organizations can have a bearing on the Azerbaijani authorities, the French MP said, in particular: “I hope that the Council of Europe [(CoE)] may have an effect on Azerbaijan, since making some proposals is within the functions of the CoE. I hope Azerbaijan will one day become a truly democratic state, since it is a clan state, at present.”
