YEREVAN. – The development of local governments is a priority for the Government of Armenia, and the respective European Union (EU) track-record is useful to the country.

Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan noted the aforementioned during his talk Friday with a delegation led by Markku Markkula, President of the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) of the EU.

Abrahamyan also underscored the holding in Yerevan—the capital city of Armenia—of the meeting and forum of the Bureau of the Conference of Regional and Local Authorities for the Eastern Partnership (CORLEAP). The PM noted that the EU is an important partner of Armenia, and the country stands ready to push bilateral cooperation forward.

Markkula, in turn, presented details on the results of the discussions that were held regarding the development of cooperation between the local governments of the EU communities and Eastern Partnership countries.

Hovik Abrahamyan, for his part, highlighted the respective collaboration, and expressed a conviction that this partnership will greatly contribute to the development of local governments in Armenia.
