YEREVAN. – Our biggest accomplishment over the course of the past 24 years of Armenia’s independence was the independence itself, which we are raising like a small child, so as to have what we have dreamed of.
Head of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) National Assembly Faction, Vahram Baghdasaryan, told the above-said to Armenian News-NEWS.am on Monday, and he congratulated the Armenian nation on the Independence Day anniversary.
As per the RPA MP, however, Armenia still has much to do also twenty or fifty years later.
“Of course, there also were shortcomings due to the circumstances of the [Karabakh] war, [Armenia’s] blockade [by Turkey andAzerbaijan], and the [powerful] earthquake [that hit the country in 1988],” stressed Baghdasaryan. “[But] naturally, all the actions and reforms, which are currently being implemented in the country, are aimed at the future.”
The Republic of Armenia on Monday marks the 24th anniversary of its independence. A referendum on Armenia’s secession from the ex-USSR and the establishment of an independent state was conducted on September 21, 1991. As a result, 94.99 percent of the country’s citizens voted “for” independence.
