The Armenian community of Argentina held an event in honor of the former Argentine President Raul Alfonsin.

A memorial plaque in honor of Alfonsin was installed on the building of the Armenian Cultural Association. It was in this very building 28 years ago - on 1 September 1987 – where the former Argentine President acknowledged the Armenian Genocide, Prensa Armenia reports.

According to the Armenian community representative Hugo Kuyumdjian, it is their duty to highlight and remember the individual who made ethics in politics and morals his inalienable flags.

"The Turkish state must understand that our country's position on human rights and its position on the Armenian Genocide can not become factors of pressure and negotiation," he said.

The ceremony was attended by the son of the late president Ricardo Alfonsin.
