YEREVAN. – Armenia, by assuming the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Chairmanship, is getting the opportunity to test this alliance in terms of maintaining politico-military security.

Founding president of the Armenian Institute of International and Security Affairs, political analyst Stiopa Safaryan, noted the abovementioned at a press conference on Tuesday.

He noted that, considering the unrelenting military threat by Azerbaijan against Armenia’s borders, this region is extremely important.

“Armenia should not only count on silencing the adversary on its own, but fight together with the [CSTO] alliance in this matter,” said Safaryan. “If we [i.e. Armenia] miss the opportunity now, Azerbaijan will draw conclusions regarding Armenia’s security.”

In the analyst’s view, if Azerbaijan is making use of armored vehicles when launching attacks, this matter needs to be raised immediately at the CSTO.

“Armenia needs to obligate its allies to jointly fight against Azerbaijan,” added Stiopa Safaryan. “They must fulfill their alliance commitments.”

On September 15, Armenia assumed the chairmanship in CSTO.
