YEREVAN. - Armenia’s political field has got dusty long ago, and political figures in the classical sense of the word can be counted on the fingers of one hand, political consultant Karen Kocharyan told Armenian News – NEWS.am.
Touching on the sudden change in the stance of the “Prosperous Armenia” party regarding the constitutional reforms in the country, Kocharyan said that the party had declared itself as a radical opposition but seems to have become radical government now. According to him, if Vahram Baghdasaryan, the head of the ruling parliamentary faction of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), states that the words of the US Ambassador aren’t serious, there’s no longer any point in talking about the political sphere. “The internal political life of Armenia has turned into a circus long ago,” Kocharyan said.
Referring to the lengthy efforts of Armenia’s first President Levon Ter-Petrosyan aimed at moving the “Prosperous Armenia” party into the opposition camp, the consultant said: “Levon Ter-Petrosyan is, of course, a serious politician but whether he believed his words or not, you can ask him. I never did. I always considered “Mowgli” by Rudyard Kipling as a political writing. Especially the part when Mowgli says to Shere Khan: “You have insisted for so many times that I’m a human child, that I’ve come to believe that.” People in our political sphere are told so many times about their roles that they come to believe that.”
The leadership of “Prosperous Armenia” party has decided to vote for the referendum on the draft constitutional amendments, joining the agitation in support of the package. Earlier, however, “Prosperous Armenia” spoke against the constitutional amendments, considering the draft as an attempt of the authorities to ensure their own longevity.
