Romanian President Klaus Iohannis’s April 24 message to the Armenians was important, since no politician in Romania had ever made such an open statement in this respect.

The Ambassador of Armenia to Romania, Hamlet Gasparian, on Friday stated the above-said at the experts’ forum entitled “I remember and demand,” and which is convened within the framework of the Armenian Genocide Centennial commemoration events.

“It’s also very important that the Human Rights Committee of Romania made an announcement and proposed that the Armenian Genocide be commemorated along with the [Jewish] Holocaust,” said Gasparian.

But the ambassador added that, considering Romania’s special relationship with Turkey, it is understandable why the Romanian political parties avoid discussing the issue of the Armenian Genocide.

Hamlet Gasparian informed, however, that the Romanian Armenian community is carrying out activities so that the Romanian authorities permit the installment of Armenian monuments in public places of Romania.
