“10 kilometers of memory,” the first running race against genocides and their denial will take place in Marseille on October 4, French-Armenian journal Nouvelles d'Arménie reports. 

After Ara Khatchadourian’s ascension on Mt. Everest in April, the Marseille sports association “Race for memory” is now organizing a 10-kilometer race. The association, established in 2006 within the organization “Armenian youth in France,” has set up a goal to struggle against genocides and their denial through sports, retaining memory about the Armenian Genocide in 1915, as well as all the genocides and crimes against humanity - Holocaust and the genocides in Cambodia and Rwanda - which followed them.

President of the “Race for memory” association Gérard Kirkorian noted that the association is in direct touch with the sports movement in Armenia. “I’m very proud of organizing this race,” he said.

Honorary President of the association Pascal Chamassian, for his part, stressed that Marseille is the only place for holding the race. “The port hosted the first survivors of the Armenian Genocide. Marseille is a land of amalgamation, asylum and shelter for those who survived the breakdowns of history,” Chamassian said.
