YEREVAN. – The state commission for coordination of events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide on Saturday unanimously decided to start working towards the formation of the Pan-Armenian Council, coordinator of the commission told reporters.
He recalled that during the Armenia-Diaspora forum last September Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan proposed to discuss the idea of creating a pan-Armenian body which will be a platform that affects the condition of the Armenians in the world and conducts consultations.
“The joint work of this year showed the effectiveness and the possibility of such cooperation. Hence, today, to discuss the proposal, all members of the state commission unanimously called for the execution of works in this direction. A special organizing committee, chaired by the chairman of the Constitutional Court Gagik Harutyunyan, has been formed,”said Vigen Sargsyan, adding that he himself was appointed secretary of the Committee.
Vigen Sargsyan said that the state commission will hold another meeting to sum up and analyze the events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.
“It will be a comprehensive report on the activities of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, and I think that this meeting may coincide with the first meeting of the Pan-Armenian Council,” he added.
