YEREVAN. – Large-scale military operations are ruled out in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone.

Caucasus Institute Deputy Director, political analyst Sergey Minasyan, stated the abovementioned at a press conference on Monday.

In his words, the Azerbaijani armed forces have used artillery equipment for the first time since the establishment of ceasefire, back in 1994, and therefore many people now believe that the resumption of a full-scale military action is inevitable.

“But it is not so,” noted Minasyan. “I don’t think Azerbaijan is confident that it will be successful [if the war resumed]. The history of the recent decades shows that a growing tension does not always lead to war.”

In the analyst’s view, Azerbaijan could aggravate the situation for two reasons: To respond for the earlier Azerbaijani victims, or to divert its public’s attention from the domestic socioeconomic problems.

“In addition, the Western pressure on Azerbaijan, [and] due to human rights abuses, is continuing,” added Sergey Minasyan.
