Police, using tear gas and water cannons, on Friday raided the headquarters of Turkey’s largest-circulation newspaper, hours after a court placed it under the management of trustees.

Police dispersed protesters who had gathered outside of the opposition Zaman newspaper’s Istanbul headquarters before breaking down a gate and entering the building to escort the court-appointed managers and evict newspaper workers.

These managers dismissed Zaman Editor-in-Chief Abdülhamit Bilici from office.

The police do not permit the Zaman employees to enter the headquarters, and the entire web content of the daily is being deleted from the Internet, reported LifeNews, a Russian news website and TV.

The police have placed barriers outside the Zaman headquarters, Gazeta.ru news site of Russia reported citing Associated Press.

The capital city Ankara headquarters of Zaman is also expected to undergo such an attack, daily’s reporter Emre Soncan said, reported RIA Novosti news agency of Russia.
