YEREVAN. – The draft resolution, which will confirm that what happened to the Armenians a century ago in the Ottoman Empire was genocide, will be debated in the German Bundestag (parliament) in early June.

Bundestag MP Christoph Bergner, who is also member of the Bundestag Committee on Foreign Affairs and of the Parliamentary Friendship Group for Relations with South Caucasus Countries, on Friday told the aforesaid to reporters at the Armenian Genocide Memorial in Armenia’s capital city of Yerevan.

“I am quite confident that in early June, we will have a draft resolution in which we will state that this actually was genocide, that we need to be concerned about these victims, and that this is a warning to us all,” Bergner specifically noted. “I expect all this to be reflected in the resolution.”

On April 24, 2015—that is, on the Armenian Genocide Centennial—the Bundestag had held debates on whether to adopt the resolution, in which the mass killings of 1.5 million Armenians in the Ottoman Empire is recognized as genocide. As a result of the deliberations, however, it was decided to put off the respective voting.
