Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan has softened his stance on the European Union after harsh criticism several days ago.

Erdogan said Turkey has been waiting near EU’s door for 50 years, Cumhuriyet writes.

He expressed hope that the Union will keep its promise on the agreement to relax visa regime and will make some positive moves in the direction of Turkey’s accession to the EU.

Several days ago Erdogan said Turkey will take its own way.

“'We'll go our own way, you go yours!” he said.
