YEREVAN. - Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan on Tuesday received the delegation headed by the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the Crisis in Georgia, Herbert Salber.

Upon the latter’s request, the Defense Minister briefed him on the military actions unleashed by Azerbaijan against Nagorno-Karabakh in early April, as well as the current situation on the Line of Contact between the Karabakh-Azerbaijani opposing forces and the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. Moreover, Ohanyan drew the attention of the interlocutor to the continuation of ceasefire violations by the Azerbaijani armed forces after the oral arrangement to halt the four-day military actions.

The Minister attached importance to the necessity of targeted condemnation and formation of a climate of mutual trust through introducing international mechanisms of incident investigation and other solutions.

For his part, Herbert Salber expressed concern about the April battles and the possibility of their escalation. Noting that the conflict has no military solution, the EU Representative added that EU accepts the leading role of the OSCE Minsk Group in the conflict settlement, being ready to contribute to the activation of talks in that format.
