YEREVAN. - In case of a consensus on the new Armenian Electoral Code, the international community will technically support the election processes. Otherwise, there will be no support, Head of the Armenian National Congress (ANC) parliamentary faction, Levon Zurabyan told Armenian News – NEWS.am.  

“It’s more preferable to reach consensus as soon as possible, but even if we don’t manage this and the authorities show that they are ready to meet the society halfway, and we can finally do that - even after the adoption of the Electoral Code - we can continue the discussions, this becoming a technical issue,” Zurabyan said.

Therefore, according to him, the discussions can be continued even after the adoption of the Electoral Code. If the sides make concessions in certain issues, consensus will be announced and the changes will already be made in the new electoral Code. “But I think it is better to work now and reach consensus beforehand,” Zurabyan concluded.

During the subsequent four-day session to be held from May 16 to 19, the Armenian parliament will consider the new draft Electoral Code during the second reading. The opposition still says that its demands on the document haven’t been carried out.
