YEREVAN. - The monitorings conducted by the OSCE in the current format are nor effective.

Armenian Deputy Defense Minister Davit Tonoyan said the aforementioned at the meeting with the OSCE Chairman-in-Office (CiO) Representative Thomas Lenk (Germany). Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Ambassador Andrzej Kasprzyk, also attended the meeting.  

The sides discussed the situation formed round the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and issues related to the possible developments.

The First Deputy Defense Minister briefed Thomas Lenk on the military actions unleashed by Azerbaijan against Karabakh in early April and the current situation on the Contact Line between the Karabakh-Azerbaijani opposing forces and Armenian-Azerbaijani state border.

Tonoyan also drew the represenatives’ attention to the fact that several hours after the monitoring conducted by the OSCE mission in the northwestern direction of Talish village, a Defense Army serviceman was killed in the same site as a result of a shot fired by the Azerbaijani armed forces. The aforementioned incident indicates that the monitorings conducted by the OSCE in the current format are nor effective, since Azerbaijan continues to grossly violate the ceasefire. 

It was also noted that the introduction of international monitoring mechanisms is one of the effective guarantees of preventing such incidents.

Apart from this, reference was made to the information disseminated by Azerbaijan on the alleged use of white phosphorus bomb by the Armenian side. The circulation of the aforementioned information comes to once again confirm the need to introduce international incident investigation mechanisms in order to prevent dissemination of such misinformation.
