On the Feast of St. Mary (celebrated August 28 in Georgia), President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili amnestied 238 prisoners, Dmitry Shashkin, Minister for Penitentiary, Probation and Legal Assistance of Georgia declared, Civil Georgia agency reports.
According to Shashkin, 169 will be released, whereas 69 will have their sentence half commuted.
The Ministry reports, 195 prisoners were freed on parole in August and 400 more — in September, 2009.
