YEREVAN. - The Defense Minister of Armenia Vigen Sargsyan on Wednesday received Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense with responsibility for Russia, Ukraine, and Eurasia, Michael Carpenter.

Vigen Sargsyan stressed the important role of the U.S. in supporting the reforms carried out in the country’s military area, contribution to the capacity building and insurance of stability in the region, the press-service of the Defense Ministry informed Armenian News – NEWS.am.

The sides expressed conviction that the Armenian-American cooperation in the defense area has potential for dynamic and efficient development.

Michael Carpenter, for his part, noted that the American side attaches importance to the joint efforts in ensuring international security, as well as to the participation of Armenian peacekeepers in missions carried out in Kosovo, Afghanistan and Lebanon.

Apart from this, the interlocutors touched on the cooperation programs in the defense area and issues related to regional security.

In the framework of their visit, the American delegation visited the peacekeeping brigade of the Armenian Armed Forces and met with the instructors of Battlefield Medicine Training Center.
