Ankara has come down on the EU, accusing it of supporting the Kurdistan Workers' Party .

The hysterics of the Turkish MFA was sparked by the statement of the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini in connection with the arrest of the opposition deputies and journalists.

Ankara hurried to state that the EU “has lost a fighter for terrorism, since it supports PKK.”

“We consider unacceptable the statement which was made by the head of the European diplomacy on behalf of the EU. The EU, from which we didn’t receive expected support after the coup attempt, and which demonstrates biased attitude, persists in its incomprehension regarding Turkey’s concern about the struggle against terrorism. The EU will not relieve itself from its responsibilities, merely condemning the terrorist acts in our country. The EU has lost the image of a fighter against terrorism, since it cannot urge PKK to lay down arms, thus allowing terrorists to freely move in European countries, carry out anti-Turkish propaganda and open exhibitions in the EU Parliament building,” the statement of the Turkish MFA reads.

Such statements “have no” value for Turkey, the document reads, RIA Novosti reports.

 

Earlier, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, stated that the EU is seriously concerned about the recent events in Turkey, including discussions on reinstating the death penalty and arrests of opposition deputies, and calls for protection of democratic norms and human rights in the country.
