Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel is afraid that Moscow can impact the Bundestag election campaign by means of the cyberattacks of the Russian hackers.

Cyberattacks with Russia traces were noticed already today, Merkel said, speaking at a press-conference in Berlin after the meeting with Norwegian PM Erna Solberg, DW reports.

The Chancellor noted that the issue specifically concerns dissemination of misinformation. “Thus this may come to play certain role in the election campaign,” Merkel noted.

In her words, already now such attacks must be dealt with every day. In particular, the law enforcement authorities of Germany suspect that hacker groups having links with Moscow stand behind the recent cyberattacks on Bundestag and the headquarters of the Christian-Democratic Union in Berlin.

The Prime Minister of Norway reacted composedly to the Chancellor’s words. She noted that in Norway - like in many other countries - cyberactiveness of foreign superpowers, including Russia, is observed. But there are no signs of systematic influence from the Russian side, which could impact the Norwegian policy. Solberg described the cooperation with the Russian authorities “still quite open.”
