Hillary Clinton apologized to her supporters Wednesday for the painful loss in the presidential elections, urging them to keep "an open mind" about President-elect Donald Trump.

Clinton stated the aforesaid before her supporters in New York after her defeat, Politico reports.

“This is painful and it will be for a long time. But I want you to remember this: Our campaign was never about one person or even one election. It was about the country we love and about building an America that's hopeful, inclusive and big-hearted,” she said, adding that she believes in the country “and always will.” Clinton also implored citizens to follow her lead and support the 45th U.S. President Donald Trump,.

“We have seen that our nation is more deeply divided than we thought, but I still believe in America and I always will. If you do, then we must accept this result and then look to the future. Donald Trump is going to be our president. We owe him an open mind and the chance to lead,” she said.

Clinton also urged her disappointed supporters not to give up. “I have had successes and I have had setbacks. Sometimes really painful ones. Many of you are at the beginning of your professional public and political careers. You will have successes and setbacks, too. This loss hurts but please never stop believing that fighting for what's right is worth it.”
