YEREVAN. – The world will change under the leadership of US President-elect Donald Trump.

Ambassador Ara Papyan, Modus Vivendi Center Director and political scientist, noted the abovementioned at a press conference on Friday.

“We need to wait [as to whether] the change will be for the better or worse,” he added. “But I’m full of hope that [it will be] for the better, in terms of Armenia. Trump is a bit unpredictable; [but] there may also be interesting developments in it for us.”

As per the political scientist, the Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) conflict is more important and urgent now. In addition, reparations for Armenian Genocide are more important than its recognition.

Papyan said, however, he does not believe that Armenian-American relations will change with respect to the Karabakh conflict because, in his view, the certain steady respective position will be maintained.

“At this moment it’s more important as to who will be Trump’s assistant and will teach him to work,” stated Ara Papyan. “Trump admitted that he is uninformed about the Karabakh conflict matters. Let’s not forget that the US will be one of the three [co-]chairs [of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Minsk Group which is engaged in resolving this conflict], and, also, Trump will try to make initiatives.”
