YEREVAN. - 72 people have applied to relevant instances to claim asylum in Armenia over the first nine months of the current year, the website of the State Migration Service of Armenia reports.

One citizen from Bahrain, Benin and Cameroun each, 2 from Turkey, 15 from Iran, 9 from Iraq and 3 from Ukraine claimed asylum. Most applications came from Syrian citizens – 38 people. Only 26 of them were granted the status of refugee.

In fact, the number of people claiming asylum in Armenia has drastically reduced. Last year 316 people turned with this request, 104 of which were from Syria.
