YEREVAN. - Proposals on reforming the transportation network of Yerevan will be ready by mid-2017.

Deputy Mayor of Yerevan, Vahe Nikoyan, told the aforementioned to Armenian News – NEWS.am.

A consultant has already been selected as a result of a tender, an agreement with whom is already in the stage of signing. Six months after signing it, the consultant should come up with proposals.

The goal of the reforms is to establish a single electronic payment system in the passenger transportation sector.  

“The consultant will propose how to calculate the transportation fee. I can yet tell my personal opinion. The idea is that the payment must depend on the distance of the passage.  Then – even with stops - you will pay not twice or thrice, but for the overall distance which you passed,” the Deputy Mayor said.

Thus, if one has to pass two stops, the passage will cost even cheaper, but in case of going from one end of the city to another, it will be more expensive.

Theoretically if the payment is 20 AMD per kilometer, 5-6 km (average distance in Yerevan) will cost the same 100 AMD that is paid today or slightly more.

“These figures are theoretical. We will determine the final ones as a result of the proposals by consultants and transporters, no matter whether they are public or private. Those who want and are able to work can do that,” he state.

The introduction of the payment system in the city transportation will be carried out on the loan means of the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
