YEREVAN. – The small and medium-sized businesses that are engaged in pig farming in the Republic of Armenia (RA) see great perils for their business, according to Haykakan Zhamanak newspaper.

“In their conviction, pig farming in the RA will be concentrated in the hands of several oligarchs, as of spring next year.

“NA [i.e. National Assembly] MP [and tycoon] Samvel Aleksanyan considerably strengthened his pig farms, several months ago.

“Due to the drop in the price of pork purchases, farmers [in Armenia] will not be getting the revenues they expected. They hope to be able to quickly sell their products at least on the threshold of the New Year; but they have no idea what they will do after that.

“The simplest calculations show that the low purchase price makes pig farming unprofitable [in Armenia],” wrote Haykakan Zhamanak.
