YEREVAN. - More powers should be given to the investigative commissions of the Armenian parliament.

MP of the Armenian National Congress (ANC), Gagik Jhangiryan, said the aforementioned on Tuesday, speaking at the debate of the bill on the new draft edition of the NA Regulation. The bill was drawn out by the deputies of the ruling forces (Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) and ARF Dashnaktsutyun) to reflect the growing role of the next parliament calling, specified in the constitutional reform.

It is proposed to set up an investigative commission in the new parliament, which will deal with especially important cases.

“The bill specifies that the commission shall not interfere with the cases, which are already considered by courts. But then it turns out that it can study no large incident. Because if, God forbid, something blows up somewhere, a criminal case will be launched. Wheread if someone is dishoused and his house or property is seized with the state’s permission, a civil claim will be instituted. It then turns out the commission can investigate none of the cases. But why? It can interfere with neither the investigation nor the court, since it cannot give legal assessments. This commission can only gather facts. Thus, it is necessary to give it an opportunity to deal with these cases parallel with the judicial process,” Jhangiryan stated.
